This hand-tied jig can easily be thrown on monofilament line. The size of the line should match the size of the jig. Use 3–4 lb. line for the 1/32 oz. and increase line size with jig size.
The unique action of this jig is unequaled in its fish-attracting and catching abilities. Unlike round head or symmetrical shaped heads, which fall straight as they drop in the water, the Zig Jig zig zags back and forth as it falls, thus staying in the strike zone longer. This action drives fish crazy. When they see it, they have to have it!
Fish the Zig Jig by casting out straight in front of you toward the bank or quartering downstream just a little. Let it sink down to within 3 to 6 inches from the bottom and then give it a pop or twitch with your rod. The shallower the water, the faster you’ll have to work it. The deeper the water, the slower you’ll have to fish.
The important thing is to keep the Zig Jig in the fish’s strike zone as much as possible. Fish will hit the Zig Jig as it falls about 90% of the time. When you make the next pop or twitch of the rod tip, you’ll be setting the hook.
The Zig Jig works best in rivers and was designed to catch trout, but has also been used very effectively to catch bass, walleye, crappie, and bluegill in lakes and ponds.
